My favourite thing to do on a Sunday when I first wake up is to make my breakfast, eat it listening to the radio in my pyjamas and read the latest post on PostSecret. It's a ritual and I love it.
In my new year's post, I raved about Fat Mum Slim's Photo-a-day challenge. I told you to do it, in fact. I didn't do it myself, although I told myself I would. Failure. Then, the other day, I was clearing out my computer of images and I found my Photo-a-Day's from April last year. It was so special. I could remember the day each photograph was taken, what I was doing, how I was feeling and were I was when I uploaded it. That's when I thought to myself, I have to do the Photo-a-day for February.
I am committed now. I really have to make myself do it but when I do, I am so glad I have done. (That was a ridiculous sentence if ever I wrote one - but the sentiment was there). Never have I ever experienced a friendlier online community than the people who take part in this challenge. They follow the hashtag to find other participants from all over the world, like and comment and soon you find you're making friends with these people - seeing into their lives, what they like, where they were and what they are inspired by. It keeps me creative. I'm always looking for a potential image. I plan in advance (am I getting to into it?) I'm sad if I think my photograph isn't good enough but at the end of the month, I get a great deal of satisfaction at what I have done.
After my first month, I told my family about it. My aunt, who had just go an iPad, joined in. Those few months when we did Photo-a-Day together were so special. I can remember running home and waiting to see when she'd upload hers and what she would comment on mine. It was a different way of keeping in touch. A really great way to.
I first came across Photo-a-Day because of my favourite blogger Scarlett Curtis (who followed me on twitter the other day. just saying. my life is now complete. I did do many happy dances around my house. play it cool) I began to take photos too and looked forward to reading her posts on her blog of her weekly images. Hence why I mentioned PostSecret. Every Sunday, I am planning to upload my photos in hope that you will eat your breakfast listening to the radio in your pyjamas and enjoy scrolling through my pictures as I did Scarlett's and PostSecret's.
Here are mine for these first few days of February...
1. Fork. This is not my fork... I use grown up forks.
2. Pattern. A new term is starting. That means new stationary. Watch out Paperchase, here I come.
3. Something beginning with 'E'. This was postcard I received from a lovely friend of mine. It is an elephant. An elephant holding a balloon to be exact. That is something rather special, don't you agree?
And that's that! Will you join in the Photo-a-Day challenge? I hope you do. Let me know if you do and I'll follow you! You just won't regret it. These photos, no matter how silly and trivial they seem when you take them, soon mean a lot to you.
I will be Photo-a-Day-ing as best a can on Instagram. The queen of social networking in my eyes, second only to Pinterest. Follow me @jojangles.
