simple knitting tutorial: how to cast on

So... I love to knit! That much is obvious, I blog about it all the time! And if you don't know how to, I'd love to show you how! Let's start at the very beginning, a very good place to start. (Begins to burst into a medley of Sound of Music songs)

Here is a super simple step by step guide of how to knit. Starting with how to cast on.

Loop the wool of your choice. I chose red. Because it's my favourite!

Thread the wool through the loop to make a slip knot.

Look at that! Like a real sailor's knot!

Thread that onto your knitting needle.

Now you can start making your stitches. Wrap the wool once around your thumb. Post the point of the needle through the loop and you've got a stitch!

If you keep going you've got a row! Keep tuned in so you can keep going step by step through how to knit together. I will follow up with simple tutorials and projects too! All manageable and bite sized because sometimes knitting can be super overwhelming. I was taught by my Nana, Mum and many YouTube videos!

  1. Thank god for YouTube eh?! I was sat in front of repeated viewings of a 'how to cast on' clip when I first started. Then, my Grama got me going in the round. You have very neat stitches!
